Bu yazıda, çelik döküm parçalarda sıklıkla gördüğümüz bir diğer sorun üzerinde duracağız: Makrosegregasyon. Aslında bu sorunun sadece çelik döküm parçalara mahsus olduğunu söyleyemeyiz. Alüminyum alaşımlarında, hatta yönlü katılaştırılan tek taneli (single crystal) parçalarda bile makrosegregasyonun önemli bir sorun olduğunu belirtmemiz lazım. Fakat konuyu bu kadar geniş bir kapsamda ele almak yerine, bu yazıda çerçeveyi sadece çelik döküm parçalarla sınırlı tutacağız.

Makrosegregasyon, en basit ifade şekliyle, döküm parçalarda gördüğümüz kompozisyon farklılıklarına verdiğimiz isim. Malzemeyi oluşturan elementlerin homojen bir şekilde dağılmak yerine, belli konumlarda birikmesi şeklinde de düşünebilirsiniz. Segregasyon tabirinin önünde makro– ifadesinin yer alıyor olması, bu kompozisyon farklılıklarının makro ölçekte, yani mikroskobik olarak tanımlayabileceğimiz ölçeğin daha üzerinde gerçekleştiğini gösteriyor. Bunun oldukça geniş bir ölçü aralığı olduğunu düşünüyor olabilirsiniz. Gerçekten de öyle: Makrosegregasyon milimetre ölçeğinde ortaya çıkabileceği gibi, büyük döküm parçalarda metrelere yayılan mesafelerde de kendini gösterebiliyor.
